From Anna Scott, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand:

We had a fantastic day. Travelling to our nominies from all over Taranaki to make their moment spectacular. We had a stunning florist donate flowers so when we farewelled our lovely families we blew them away with the most lovely flowers. We photographed 4 families, 2 nominated to us from womans refuge and these ladies were so pleased to have a day that was all about making them feel special. We also photographed one family nominated to us from Big Brother Big Sister which is an organisation that finds children in need of positive role models and mentors to help give them a bit of nomality and stability in their life. We were very sad that our fourth family was unable to participate as their mother who had cancer went into hospital the day before very suddenly. We dropped her off a bunch of flowers to help light up their day.

This is our third year running and we look foward to this day every year. We love seeing the smiles on peoples’ faces when they see their portrait and giving them that one special moment to keep forever. It is just a beautiful blessing for all of us.

I said to one woman, we hope we have made your day that little bit more special… and she replied… you have made my year!

As photographers we forget how easy it is to take photos and the memories we have recorded within our own families through photographs. Some families have never had a photograph taken with all of their children together, let alone a professional one. So I understand what a privileged position I am in.
